About
the
 Drama Group

Chedworth Drama Group - local drama since 2000

Chedworth Drama Group was originally formed in the 1930s (with thanks to some local feedback and intel!). Meeting in the old village hall with just three members. Reformed in 2000 we have staged productions every year, with fallow years in 2012 and 2014 due to other village commitments amongst the membership. The group relies completely on its own finances, raised through sponsorship and ticket sales. We do use professionals on occasion for help with lighting and sound, graphic design, programme design and printing - but usually the rest is our own work.

As a group we have staged classic plays on the themes of murder, drama and farce. Our Shows page sets out something of the history of the our productions.

This website is dedicated to one member who showed unwavering loyalty and enthusiasm to the group, John Robson. His picture is at the top of the page for this reason. It was his vision that set in motion the performances in the open air at the Manor in Chedworth, kicking off a now three year run with Midsummer Night's Dream by one William Shakespeare in 2016. In association with Bonzo Productions, director Ross Aldridge. In 2017 we offered The Merchant of Venice, and Much Ado About Nothing in 2018. 2020 saw the return to the Manor with Romeo and Juliet

The Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard said of Merchant of Venice "Chedworth Drama Productions deliver a flawless performance to a sold-out stand - not bad for an amateur group". You can read the full review online, HERE.
